ABOUT US

MISSION

The EPREE network supports a pan-European approach to environmental regulation by bringing together pertinent data resources and research competence.

WHY EPREE?

Environmental policy design should be subject to rigorous empirical evaluation. We think that a pan-European approach to gathering this evidence is imperative because

Most EU member states maintain firm-level datasets on environmental and economic performance. These datasets are highly representative, very detailed and benefit from extensive quality control. However, there is no procedure in place for researchers to simultaneously access all datasets and conduct European-wide analyses. To the contrary, access to those datasets is often highly restrictive, and data access requests are limited to one country at a time.

EPREE solves this problem by coordinating research efforts across teams of researchers with access to relevant datasets in different countries. Data analysis is broken down into steps that can be processed with national datasets. Having passed confidentiality clearance by national statistics offices, results are then aggregated across countries to get the full picture.

HISTORY

EPREE was founded in December 2018 at the University of Mannheim, Germany. Funding by the German Research Foundation (DFG) through CRC TR 224 (Project B7) is gratefully acknowledged.
